So you've found a date at one of the online dating sites and now it's time to meet face to face. Here are some helpful tips.

1. Look your best, but still be yourself
First impressions are everything, so make sure you get a hair cut and a clean shave before your date. Women should get their hair done and nails manicured. Try to have some style but also be yourself and the person you described in your profile. Wear clothes that relax you and make you feel comfortable.

2. Meet at a public place
Meet somewhere like a park, bar or coffee shop. You will feel more secure and relaxed than if you were somewhere private.

3. Keep it short and sweet
Meet for a quick lunch or a cup of coffee. This will be long enough to know more about each other and judge if the chemistry is right. The last thing you want to do is be stuck at dinner or a movie with somebody you are not comfortable with.

4. Watch the language
Be aware of not only what you say but how you say it. Try not to use any foul language. Sit up straight and be polite.

5. Be prepared for the unexpected
Even if you have already talked through emails or phone conversations there is a good chance that you will not make a connection. Sometimes the chemistry just isn't there. If this happens tell your date you won't stay long or make up an excuse if you have to. However be honest and tell them that you don't feel a connection but be friendly and polite about it.

6. Good eye contact
It is very important to maintain good eye contact throughout your date. Glancing around makes it look like you are not interested.

7. Ask and listen.
Give your date a chance to talk and listen to what they have to say. This will make them feel interesting. Follow up with appropriate questions.

8. Use their real name
Call your date by his or her real name. You are no longer in a chat room and this will show them respect.

9. Be positive
Stay enthusiastic throughout the date and have a sense of humor. Keep things relaxed and don't take anything too seriously.

10. Follow through
Send your date an email or give them a call to say thank you. If you are certain that you no longer want to see them in the future tell them thanks but you are not interested. If things went well, tell them thanks and that you are looking forward to another date.
